I would like to introduce unique writing system of Korea, which is called “Hangul”. Unlike many other languages which use alphabet as their writing systems, Korea has its own writing system, which was made by King Sejong in 1443. Korean letter consists of 10 vowels and 14 consonants Equivalent pronunciation is below : Consonants on the same line have similar way to pronounce. For example, when speaking “ㄴ ㄷ ㅌ” in a row, the tongue hits the same place(organ) with different power. When King Sejong made the letter, horizontal lines were added to mark sound getting stronger. Besides, when consonants are written twice, the sound becomes stronger. 10 vowels are ㅡ ㅗ ㅏ ㅛ ㅑ ㅣ+ ㅗ -> ㅛ (yo) and below is the double vowels: ㅐ ㅒ ㅔ ㅖ ㅘ -> ㅗ + ㅏ -> o + a = wa 19 consonants As it can be seen above, Hangul is a very scientific writing system, made with deep consideration. Due to this characteristic, it is very easy for foreigners to learn to read hangul since the shape of each letter is related to the way it’s pronounced. I wish more people get interested in Hangul and Korean, and love Korean culture!!
